POSITION: SENIOR DATA GOVERNANCE OFFICER

JOB PURPOSE: The role holder is responsible for the implementation of the Bank’s data management goals, standards, practices, processes, and technologies and monitors to ensure that all data-related activities within the Bank follow a consistent set of rules and procedures.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the creation of policies and procedures for data storage and access.
  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and industry regulations regarding data security and integrity.
  • Supports in developing long-term plans for data management infrastructures, including identifying potential problems that may arise.
  • Supports in conducting employee training on best practices surrounding data management to ensure that they are aware of proper procedures for handling sensitive data.
  • Creates reports on data quality, incidents and risks which highlight any areas that should be focused on to mitigate/avoid breaches of the governance framework.
  • Conducts data cleansing/remediation activities as required.
  • Monitors data access and usage and conducts periodic audits to ensure compliance with all governance regulations, policies and standards.
  • Defines, implements and maintains enterprise data architecture, including taxonomies, data models, and data dictionaries.
  • Tracks data metrics to assess the overall health of data usage in the Bank
  • Supports in defining policies and processes for data management, including data classification, data definition, data quality, data privacy (including GDPR) and data security (including access control, encryption, etc.

 

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related discipline
  • Minimum five (5) years work experience in IT, 2 years of which must be in similar role in the financial services industry
  • Experience implementing data governance policies and procedures
  • Certification in data governance or related field is an added advantage
  • Familiarity with coding languages, such as SQL, Java, or Python
